Security Updates and Maintaining Cyber Vigilance

Cyber criminals continue to attempt to take advantage of the COVID-19 situation with a broad range of attack methods. The most important defenses are to update equipment and systems with the latest security patches and to scan systems and equipment for malware.  A recent security alert recommends that all iPhones, iPads and other Apple products be updated with current patches immediately. While deployed equipment for teleworking makes updates more challenging, these security updates are critical to maintaining operations and preventing disruptions.

Cyber criminals also attempt to divert state and federal funds using fraudulent identities. Departments can effectively prevent this by practicing vigilant authentication controls to validate the identity of requesters seeking funding or financial information. Please see theCyber Centerfor additional resources and links for cyber alerts, and contact CTREmergencyNotification@mass.gov with any incidents or suspected incidents of fraud or cyber attacks.
