Be Cautious of Hidden Threats with AI Sites

The text "Cybersecurity Tip of the Week"

Artificial Intelligence (AI) sites, tools, and apps continue to increase in popularity. While AI can offer educational, artistic and research opportunities, there are also hidden risks. Everything entered in a chatbot is collected and is publicly available to anyone. Fraudsters are tracking searches and can use information to launch a phishing campaign against your agency or other security attacks.

Action Steps:

  1. Do not use AI sites or browser add-ons/extensions like ChatGPT, Bard, etc. unless you have cleared with your IT staff, since many of these extensions are fake and may create security risks for work networks.
  1. Do NOT enter work related information into any chatbot or AI site without checking with your IT and legal staff, since certain data should not be posted publicly and can create security risks.
  1. Just because information may be considered “public” does not mean it should be publicly posted. Fraudsters triangulate data to create targeted attacks and fraud.
