Beware of voice clones

Fraudsters are using AI (artificial intelligence) to clone voices to carry out phone scams.  Fraudsters only need a few words or sentences to pick up speech patterns. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently warned that fraudsters are using cloned voices to scam family out of money sent to fraudsters who convincing sounded like a family member in need.

Action Steps

• Validate callers, even if they sound familiar, with information only you know or for vendors and employees, information you have on file.
• Set up “safe words” for family and friends, or PINs or security words for vendors or employees who are seeking banking changes.
