Latest Tax-Filing Scam
A new wide-ranging hacking campaign is targeting taxpayers by purporting to show blurry images of their tax returns. The documents, which look like blurry images of tax returns, include a prompt, telling targets to click on “Enable Editing” and “Enable Content”. Once clicked, malware infects the user’s device, allowing hackers to search personal data, take over take filing, and more.
Cybersecurity experts expect instances of this or similar fraud attempts to escalate as Tax Day (May 17) approaches – and could ultimately involve millions of bogus emails.
The IRS or Massachusetts Department of Revenue will never contact you via email or text message.
