Departments are now required to provide periodic cybersecurity awareness reminders to staff in addition to mandatory annual cybersecurity awareness trainings. Routine reminders help reduce the risks of disruptions and the financial losses from cyber incidents and fraud.
As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we have updated our cybersecurity training packet. “Pause Verify Report Everyday” offers tips, videos, infographics, and leadership materials for year-round use. You’ll find a full year’s worth of monthly tips and reminders ready to share with staff (or customize), along with resources to help you build and reinforce cybersecurity awareness across your team.

- Establish a process to integrate periodic cybersecurity awareness reminders into your internal controls.
- Maintain internal control records showing how and when the periodic refreshers and reminders were issued for audit purposes.

Your Internal Control Officer (ICO) should review the department’s written system of internal controls to ensure it is current and supports these training compliance requirements. The ICO can help verify that the department head is accurately certifying compliance in the annual Internal Control Certification.
