Phishing scams at work

cybersecurity tip of the week

A common phishing scam involves someone pretending to be a manager or department head contacting employees to ask them to purchase gift cards and send the card number and PIN. These scams characteristically ask the employee to act quickly, often use a different communications method than normal, and may appear to be from unfamiliar phone numbers or email addresses.

If you encounter or suspect a phishing attempt like this, use another communications channel (video or phone call) to confirm with that co-worker that it’s not them or refer this to your manager. Please remember to never open links received in a text or email like this. Alert your manager and [email protected].
